Sarah Woolwine MSN, RN, NPD-BC

Nurse Educator

I’m a nurse educator with a background in instructional design, simulation, and professional development. I’ve spent over 15 years working in healthcare and education, supporting nurses and healthcare teams through engaging and practical learning experiences.

In my current role, I coordinate simulation and innovative learning efforts, helping teams build skills through tools like virtual reality, high-fidelity manikins, and interactive eLearning. I enjoy finding creative ways to make learning more meaningful and effective for those who care for others.

These six areas are where I do my best work. I love finding creative and practical ways to help people learn, solve problems, and work smarter, whether that's through instructional design, technology, or improving everyday processes.

Instructional Design and Adult Learning

With over 12 years in nursing education and professional development, I use instructional design models like ADDIE and SAM to create effective learning experiences grounded in adult learning principles.

Simulation and Immersive Learning

I design and lead simulation-based training using high-fidelity manikins, standardized patients, and virtual reality. These experiences build clinical skills, teamwork, and learner confidence.

eLearning, Virtual Reality, and Technology Integration

I use tools like Articulate 360 and CenarioVR to create eLearning and immersive virtual reality experiences. These tools support clinical judgment and self-efficacy, especially for new and transitioning nurses.

Collaboration and Project Leadership

I work with educators, clinical leaders, and subject matter experts to plan and deliver learning solutions aligned with organizational goals. I lead simulation initiatives involving budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination, ensuring high-quality outcomes through strong partnerships.

Workflow Automation and Systems Thinking

I use Power Automate to streamline recurring processes such as preceptor applications, CE requests, and eLearning requests. By automating manual tasks, I help reduce administrative burden, improve turnaround times, and support more efficient operations for education and training teams.

Data Collection and Analysis

I use tools like Microsoft Forms, SharePoint, and Power BI to collect feedback from learners and track metrics from simulations. This information helps evaluate the impact of training and guides improvements to better support clinical readiness and educational goals.

Research Article

Game On

The purpose of this descriptive correlational study was to determine if implementing gamification teaching methodologies in nondigital format into nursing orientation has a positive effect on orientees’ motivation and knowledge retention. The study included a convenience sample of 152 registered nurses who attended the nursing orientation class at a Midwestern acute care facility. This study found that gamification had a positive effect on the orientees’ motivation and knowledge retention.

Video

Preceptor Roles

Used Synthesia to create a video that introduces the topic of Preceptor Roles for an instructor-led class. The video provides a clear overview to set the stage for classroom discussion and a group activity.

CenarioVR

NIH Stroke Scale Assessment

Using a VR headset, learners observed the NIH stroke scale being performed and scored each section in real time as it was completed. The footage was captured with a 360 GoPro max camera, and audio was recorded using RØDE microphones. Video and audio were edited in Adobe Premiere and Audition to create an immersive interactive learning experience.
